My Policy Priorities

What makes San Luis Obispo County so special are the people, the schools, the communities, Cal Poly and Cuesta College, the vibrant downtowns, working infrastructure, the beautiful surrounding hills and scenic vistas, and our world-class coastlines, to name a few.

But things are not perfect here -- and we know it. Housing remains unaffordable for many individuals and families. And some of the new housing projects are catering more for out-of-towners than for local working people. Homelessness is everywhere, which is bad for the people who have nowhere to go, for local businesses, for the natural environment -- and for our personal psyches and the community's collective soul.

It's also expensive to live here. While graduating students, our adult children, and their kids would love to live here, it can be challenging to find a job that pays enough to do so. The same is true for our retired seniors, many of whom have to return to work to pay for the increasing cost of everything.

These issues and more -- including health care and daycare -- drive me to advocate for our community and promote better systems and economic opportunity for everyone. Here are my priorities:
